Introduction to Bamboo Sleep Sacks

Bamboo is a natural and sustainable material that is becoming increasingly popular in the baby apparel industry. Bamboo sleep sacks are a great example of this trend. They are made from organic and natural bamboo fibers, which make them hypoallergenic, breathable and eco-friendly for the planet.

Bamboo sleep sacks are not only hypoallergenic and breathable, but they also allow for tremendously effective temperature regulation. They have a unique quilted design that allows for even weight distribution and airflow, which makes it easier for your baby to get to sleep at night. The moisture-wicking natural properties of bamboo rayon helps keep your child warm in cooler temperatures, and cooler in warmer temperatures, too.

Features of Ry & Pen Bamboo Sleep Sacks

Ry & Pen is a company that designs and manufactures sleep apparel products for babies, with sleep sacks being their best-selling products.

Ry & Pen bamboo sleep sacks are designed to keep your baby warm and cozy during sleep time. The sleep sacks are designed with a tagless neck labels, are made with bamboo and merino wool fabrics, are lab tested against North American baby sleepwear standards, and are always made with the most premium and high quality materials on the market.

For example, all fabrics that Ry & Pen uses are STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®. STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® is one of the world's best-known labels for textiles tested for harmful substances. It is an assurance of confidence and high product safety. Said differently, every individual aspect of this fabric with STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX has been tested for harmful substances and are safe and harmless to human health. This is an important distinction, as most internationally-made brands do not use high quality and safety-certified fabrics that meet the standard set by OEKO-TEX. Ry & Pen uses top of the line, premium materials to make sure they create products that are not only crafted to stand the test of time, but are the best they can possibly be in quality and safety.

Ry & Pen’s bamboo sleep sacks are perfect for babies with sensitive skin and eczema. Bamboo is hypoallergenic, so it doesn't cause irritation like other materials can. This makes bamboo sleep sacks perfect for babies with sensitive skin or eczema, helping to prevent rashes and any potential skin irritation that many babies experience from time to time.

How about those middle of the night diaper changes, especially for newborns and infants? Well, with 2-way zippers, you’ll never have to worry about struggling to get the sleep sack on and off your child when you (and they) are half asleep. Changing a diaper in the middle of the night is a breeze with Ry & Pen’s 2-way YKK zippers. Buy a product with a 2-way zipper and thank us later!

One of the most wonderful things about Ry & Pen’s bamboo sleep sacks is that they are eco-friendly! All of their bamboo is sourced from certified Canadian suppliers who follow sustainable harvesting, dying and manufacturing practices.

What to Consider When Getting a Bamboo Sleep Sack for Your Child?

We thought that it would be helpful to provide some insight into what you should consider when getting a bamboo sleep sack for your baby.

- The right size: The most important thing to keep in mind is the size of the sleep sack. It should not be too big or too small. If it is too big, then your baby might get tangled up in it and if it is too small, then they might not have enough room to move around. Luckily, Ry & Pen has designed their neck and arm holes, as well as the length of their sleep sacks, consistent with the latest WHO data and guidelines for babies worldwide.

- Cost: There are many different types of bamboo sleep sacks on the market and prices vary from $30-$150+. The less expensive the product, generally, the lower the quality will be. For example, a $30 sleep sack may not have quality stitching detail, or may even be made in an unethical facility or nation. More expensive sleep sacks are not only made to stand the test of time and can be passed on from generation to generation - but they also are usually crafted with a high attention to detail and very premium materials. Make sure that you know specifically what you are looking for in a baby sleep sack before you start shopping. There are so many options and brands out on the market!

- TOG rating - what is it TOG: Many people will start shopping for bamboo baby sleep sacks for the first time and will see the term “TOG” and wonder “what does this mean?”. TOG is short for Thermal Overall Grade, which rates how well a fabric resists heat. TOG is the standard measure of how much heat is absorbed by your clothes during sleep. This is how warm a garment keeps you. The higher the TOG rating, the better the material can hold heat and stay warm (and in general, the thicker the material will be, too). Ry & Pen offers 2 different TOGs: 0.5 TOG and 1.0 TOG.

- TOG rating - different ratings:

0.5 TOG Sleep Sacks: think of this as the lightest weight and “summer weather” solution for your baby’s sleep wardrobe. It is a very lightweight version similar to a swaddle blanket, which is best used in warmer climates and rooms. Typically, 0.5 TOG sleep sacks are best used when rooms are kept in the 20 - 23 degrees Celcius range.

1.0 TOG Sleep Sacks: think of this as the best all-around weight, and is generally an “all season” product. When your baby starts to wear long-sleeve onesies, footies or long-sleeve/pants clothing outside, then they will be a good fit for the blanket feel, thickness and warmth of this 1.0 TOG item. In general, 1.0 TOG sleep sacks are best for when rooms are in the 18 - 22 degrees Celcius range.

However, every baby’s body regulates temperature differently. So, trying different TOGs and using whatever your baby responds most comfortably to, is how we recommend selecting the TOG that is right for your child.
