Sleep safety, security, and comfort are at the heart of what we do at Ry & Pen.
The Basics
Sleep – whether for naps or nighttime – is probably the only time that you are going to leave your baby unattended in the early days, weeks, and months of their life.
The critical thing to do here is to make sure your baby is sleeping in a safe surrounding, free of soft materials (i.e. stuffed animals), loose items, or anything sharp/pointy that could be harmful, regardless of how unintentional it may be.
Parents and caregivers have to be aware of safe sleep practices whenever possible. Health Canada has produced a great guide to help provide you with information to keep your little loved one safe during sleep time.
Safe Sleepwear
It’s critical that the clothes and sleep accessories your baby uses for sleep time are as safe and thoughtfully crafted as the time and attention you put into the surfaces they sleep on.
That’s why we created footies (sleepers) and sleep bags (wearable blankets) that are made with only the finest, safest and most premium materials (like 2-way YKK zippers, zipper tab pockets, tagless neck labels, and bamboo rayon & merino wool fabrics).
Health Canada recommends putting your baby to sleep on their back, in a crib, cradle or bassinet, and also suggests keeping them in your room for the first 6 months of their lives.
They also warn against things like comforters, quilts, heavy blankets, infant or adult pillows, stuffed toys/stuffed animals, bumper pads and sleep positioners. Instead, wearable blankets like the Ry & Pen LoveLuxe Sleep Bags are a great alternative to creating a safe, cozy and secure environment for your little one’s sleep time.
SIDS & Safe Sleep
The topic SIDS and the risk of SIDS is an important one – and although it’s not one that many people like to think or talk about – it’s critical that we don’t ignore it. Sure, it’s scary and something that we never want to encounter. But if we don’t take measures to avoid it as much as possible, we aren’t doing our job right.
In fact, each and every one of our products is thought about in the context of mitigating the risk of SIDS and infant suffocation.
Many products may claim to “reduce the risk of SIDS”. While some may do so legitimately, most of what you’ll find in stores and online do not necessarily do so.
It’s imperative that each and every caregiver and parent make the most educated and informed decisions regarding items to use in a crib or bassinet, garments to put on your baby, and accessories to accompany your little ones during sleep time. All of those individual decisions and precautions can collectively help you do everything in your power to create a safe environment for your baby that will ultimately keep them healthy and secure.
We’ve taken every possible precaution to create the safest footies (sleepers) and sleep bags for your baby. From only using YKK zippers to special tab pockets that protect baby’s skin to Oeko-Tex 100 certified fabrics to carefully designed neck openings, arm lengths, grip-dotted soles and tagless neck labels – we’ve put love and thought into every detail of our products.
